I had to look up "business" before I started writing. According to the Oxford dictionary it entails quite a lot of activities that are not necessarily related to the conventional wealth generating enterprises. On that technicality I can cheat away (evil grin). Soon after college I had the privilege to work with the Cleft Organisation as a Junior volunteering Life Coach. The experience was exhilarating, a dias from which to teach, learn, empathize & be a child again. To say the experience was amazing is an understatement. Most importantly it was fulfilling, one of the few activities that left me feeling wholesome.
One of the most memorable tours/camps we had was in Muzarabani, a district in Mashonaland Zimbabwe along the Mozambique-Zimbabwe border. The trip itself was breathe taking, as a nature freak I was blown away. Muzarabani lies in a valley & the descent is sublime. As you start your descent there is such a ravishing panoramic view of the valley & parts of Mozambique, its biblical.
Fast forward we went & spent a weekend at one of the schools, sad I can't seem to recollect the name. The kids came over & spent the weekend at the school & we had ball games, mentoring sessions i think & tons of laughter & fun. It was humbling, an honor & refreshing responsibility having those cherubs look at you in that light. Far from the city lights in the heart of the country, we shed our facades & were nakedly human & children again. I'm slightly embarrassed to say I might have enjoyed myself more that a lot of the pupils that were there lol. I loved the laughter & how infectious it was, the carefreeness of it all. There is something about a child's smile that remains warm way after like prayers on pews. I'm sure by now you're like yeah good for you so?
I would love to have a philanthropic out reach organization that works with schools especially in remote areas. Offering play & mentoring sessions, financial assistance & maybe career guidance. My dream & my hope is to mimic that weekend, to have another child somewhere on this planet laugh & enjoy themselves like that. To expose them to a whole new world, plant a seed in a cherub's heart somewhere. To have another young adult maybe on their gap year or after college experience a fulfilling moment in their life.
So there we have it. That would be the business I would love to set up.
